Most destinations, especially in Asia, are very contrast in
terms of visitation rates between high and low season. While many people
believe that some places are only worth a visit in certain times of the year, I
think you can still get a lot of benefits by traveling in the off-peak season.
And here are 5 of them:
1. To save a lot of
money
During the low periods, tour operators, airlines, hotels,
cruises usually offer a much lower rate or great package deals to attract
customers.

2. To have more
options in picking your desired room
3. To get off the
beaten track
To step away from the crowds (I mean the tourists, not the
locals) and enjoy a laid back atmosphere is what many of us dream of when
traveling.

4. To be treated well
Service staffs are humans. They cannot ensure consistent
top-notch service to every customer in every encounter when the peak season
comes. But that’s not the case in the off season when staffs tend to be more
attentive and pay more attention to details. The locals are also nicer in bargaining.
5. In some
destinations, there’re still a lot to be explored, a lot of exciting things to
do in the low season
Surfing in Phuket during the monsoon, kayaking in Halong Bay
in the winter, biking in Siem Reap in the dry season, you name it.
Going in the off season means taking risks mainly due to the
bad weather. But if you’re willing to take the risks, the benefits can outweigh
them. One last piece of advice, always check with the status of hotels or
tourist attractions as some of them may carry on refurbishments or renovations
when the demand is low.
